🔧 A long-term preparation work 🔧: Obtaining this certification was not an easy path: it took us a whole year of preparation, compliance and continuous improvements.

A low-carbon boiler for the Château de Larunque 🌿🔥

An important step in our environmental approach 🌍: Château de Larunque has decarbonized its heating system by replacing the old oil boiler with a biomass boiler from OKOFEN, a renowned Austrian brand specializing in wood-fired boilers. This change marks a step forward in our commitment to more sustainable management of our heritage 🌳.

A bit of history... 🏰: The old oil boiler, a De Dietrich, had been installed during the renovation of the castle in 1995, after its fire in 1976. Despite its many years of service and longevity of operation, it was no longer in line with our values or with the current challenges of reducing carbon emissions ♻️.

The new biomass boiler uses wood pellets. We ensure that they are sourced locally, sustainably and from responsible forestry. It is therefore a renewable resource which significantly reduces our carbon footprint 🍃, whilst preserving the comfort of our guests 😊.

This transition was an opportunity to improve the heating system in certain parts of the castle, particularly in the theatre 🎭 , by installing more powerful cast iron radiators 💡. This will allow us to better heat this emblematic space, without compromising our eco-responsible approach ✅.

However, we remain faithful to our principles of energy sobriety and we follow the recommendations of ADEME (Energy Transition Agency) in terms of heating instructions, to limit our consumption while ensuring the well-being of our guests 👥.

We are proud of this new chapter in the life of the Château and hope that you will share our enthusiasm for these ecological advances 🌱. Together, let's continue to preserve this exceptional place, while taking care of the planet 🌏.

🏰 Larunque Castle awarded the ""Sustainable Territory"" label! 🌿

We are pleased to announce that Château de Larunque has been awarded the "Sustainable Territory" label, recognising our commitment to environmentally friendly tourism, rooted in the local area. This label, granted by the tourist offices, confirms our eco-responsible approach with an 88% compliance score across 65 criteria ✅, including responsible purchasing, water 💧 and energy ⚡ management, biodiversity 🐝, waste reduction ♻️, and other CSR policies.

Some of our key actions include prioritising local, organic, and fair-trade products 🍽️, optimising water usage with efficient systems 🚿, and using green energy from renewable sources ☀️. We have also made biodiversity protection a priority by creating protected areas 🌱 and avoiding harmful chemicals. In terms of waste management, we have implemented a recycling system and reduced single-use plastics 🚮.

This label marks a new chapter in our continuous improvement journey, and we will keep innovating to offer stays that are even more respectful of the environment 🌳.

Transport represents most of the carbon footprint of your vacations or seminars. To combat climate change, it is essential to reduce this footprint, in particular by choosing more ecological modes of transport such as trains, bicycles and electric cars.

For your comfort, we have installed a reinforced 3 KW socket, allowing free charging of your vehicle during off-peak hours. For faster charging, an 11 KW terminal is also available (paid service).

"Ping-Pong" or "Table Tennis"?

We are delighted to announce a new activity at Château de Larunque: a racket game played on a table. It doesn't matter which name you prefer, "Ping-Pong" or "Table Tennis", the bottom line is that you have a great time hitting that little white (or yellow) ball.

You can play singles, duos, rounds or tournaments or act as referee to count points.

There are a plethora of activities at Larunque Castle to keep you in shape or entertain you.

For athletes (young and old, beginners or experienced):

- Tennis: Create your own personal ""Roland-Garros"".

- Ping-Pong : Singles, doubles, round robin, tournament: Hit the small ball.

- Pétanque: Almost obligatory tournament at aperitif time.

- Pool : Swim laps at dawn when everyone is still asleep.

- Aquabike: Replay the Tour de France underwater.

- Jogging: To run to the village or to Adour, bring your shoes.

For sports-phobic or athletes after the events:

It's not Versailles here, it's just Larunque

The first trimester: it's like spring. For us, this is the perfect time to make our beloved castle flourish with new improvements! And this year, we decided, among other things, to make our home shine with a dazzling light, literally and figuratively!

Imagine yourself in our Cinema room, with its tasseled chandeliers and Art-Deco bedside lamps. It feels like an old Hollywood film, with just the right amount of glamor to make you dream! And in the circus room, we installed a real trapeze act, but not for acrobats, just to light up the room with style. And what about the living room, where an Art Deco white camellia ball chandelier now sits? It's as if Coco Chanel had decided to make an appearance in our humble abode!

But let's get back to things a little more serious... In our quest towards more responsible energy consumption, we undertook to inventory all the light points in the castle and equip them with LED bulbs. Result: a rate of 95%, with just a few stubborn neon lights which still resist, requiring the installation of scaffolding to access them (yes, the theater has a ceiling height of more than 6 m).

Of course, lighting only represents a small part of our electricity consumption, around 3%, but every little bulb counts in our fight against energy waste. It's a small step for the castle of Larunque, but a big step for your servants who have spared no effort to make the castle more energy efficient.

And of course, let's not forget the golden rule: "It's not Versailles here", so don't forget to turn off the light when you leave a room! Otherwise, we will return to candles and candlesticks instead of our modern LEDs!

End of December, what a wonderful reunion moment!!! With family, with friends, on Christmas and New Year's Eve... No need to argue about divisive subjects, choose a subject that brings people together.

We offer you one: a weekend or a week with family (grandparents, parents and children) or with friends .

What if there are still debates about Sea or Countryside? Basque Country or Landes? We offer you Larunque Castle which will remove them: A cottage for 15 people, with heated swimming pool all year round, jacuzzi, sauna, tennis and pétanque court, in the countryside and 25 km from the Ocean beaches, on the banks of the Adour, on the ""border"" between the Basque Country and the Landes Department.

We are open every day from April 1 to December 31, and welcome you for weekends or weeks. If you wish, we will help you organize your stay with our map and tourist guide and we offer it low carbon with our social and environmental policy .

Isn't it curious for a lodge that deploys an environmental policy to heat a swimming pool? Yes and no. If this allows you to spend a vacation in France, the carbon emissions for heating the swimming pool are incommensurable compared to those of a flight to a warmer country. In addition, we close the cottage and the swimming pool from January to March to reduce emissions linked to heating.

We therefore suggest that you take advantage of our heated indoor swimming pool (at 29°C): Whether it rains, snows (this doesn't happen very often) or is windy, our swimming pool is there to delight you, including for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

For the end of 2023, there is no longer availability, but from next April until December 31, come and dive into the warm water of our swimming pool. You can also enjoy the spa (until the end of October), the sauna, the tennis court, the pétanque court and a calm and soothing environment.

So, why go far away and reduce to nothing all the efforts you can make for the climate, when you can find a vacation or weekend location within reach of the TGV or car?

To help you prepare for your stay, we have built a personalized tourist map with the main points of interest in the region.

The list is long ! So we help you locate attractions and shops and easily obtain all the information on local shops and restaurants, beaches and surf rentals, towns and villages to visit and their markets, tourist offices, local producers, monuments to see, golf courses for amateurs…

We also highlight walking and cycling: long-distance hiking trails for the brave but also local trails, cycle paths and bike rental companies.

Between the swimming pool, tennis, pétanque, spa and sauna at the Château and all the activities nearby, your stay is sure to be excellent.

Rest assured: for amateurs, we offer deckchairs for taking a nap or a reading session in the sun or in the shade of the park's trees.

The train, the lowest-carbon way to travel long distances.

Tourism is 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change, with exponential growth.

How do you do your share of reducing emissions without harming your vacation?

The vast majority (75%) of these emissions are linked to transport.
For example, coming from Paris, the carbon footprint of your transport for your round trip (to Bayonne-Biarritz) is 3 kg of C02 if you come by TGV, 30 times more (90 kg) if you come by car (4 per car) and 70 times more (210 kg) if you come by plane.

To take full advantage of your holidays and make them as low-carbon as possible, we would like to help you consider taking the train to come and have fun and recharge your batteries at the Château de Larunque (knowing that by train you can do this as soon as you departure station) :

We are delighted to announce that we have recently reinforced our equipment to make your family stay even more pleasant. Whether you're traveling with a newborn or a toddler, we have everything you need to keep your little one(s) comfortable and safe, without the bulk on your trip.

Three cots so your babies can sleep peacefully throughout the night.

The two high chairs will allow you to share meals with your family, easily and safely.

With the baby bath, there are no worries about washing, and the changing table is of course ready.

For the walk, the pushchair or the pram will allow you to make him discover the garden, the surroundings or the beaches.

If he is bigger, we have a pot for his needs.

We understand that traveling with a baby can be complicated.This is why we have done our best to anticipate your needs and offer you a serene and comfortable stay.

Fresh bread and croissants for your breakfast

Start the day at the castle with fresh bread, pastries and why chouquettes and a brioche delivered by an artisan baker & pastry chef recently installed in the neighboring town in Saint-Martin-de-Hinx.

Imagine yourself on the terrace, in the calm of a beautiful sunny morning, with the awakening of nature as a backdrop. On the table, a breakfast with fresh baguette, croissants, chocolatines, brioches, Basque cake. What more could you dream of...

The Minvielle house manufactures all its products on site from mainly local, French or organic raw materials; the breads are traditionally made without additives, with homemade natural sourdough and flour from the South West; pastries are made with AOP butter and Valrhona chocolate; the pastries change with the seasons.

This delivery of breads, pastries and cakes completes the list of services we offer during your stay:

• Collection of your groceries at the nearby drive-thru so that they are put away when you arrive,
• Catering meal with the table set to allow you to put your feet directly under the table when you arrive,
• Meal or brunch in catering mode or as a chef at home or in a restaurant,
• Yoga classes or sound massage to spend a zen stay,
• Pottery lessons to make souvenir bowls that you will take home,
• Well-being massage to relax after a spa or sauna (free access to the castle).

An Art Deco touch lights up the castle

From the end of the 18th century Biarritz attracted the aristocracy from all over Europe who came to adorn the Basque coast with a range of architectural influences. The CHÂTEAU DE LARUNQUE ***, a 19th century building, renovated in the Italian Renaissance style, fully fits into this landscape of international resorts.

More recently, Art Deco - the trend of the Roaring Twenties (1920-1930) - took hold on the Basque coast with the development of the seaside resort of Biarritz. The famous fashion designer Coco Chanel was an ambassador and added her floral touch with her emblematic camellias.

To reconcile these two inspirations, we took advantage of the renovation of the Art Deco palace Le Régina in Biarritz to get our hands on its designer lighting by William Brand Van Egmond. They are handmade in his workshop in the Netherlands and take up the Art Deco camellias.

A chandelier of black camellias now lights up the entrance hall and white camellias light up the dining room and adorn the walls of the landings leading to the bedrooms.

By staying at the CHÂTEAU DE LARUNQUE***, you will immerse yourself in exotic architectural and plant atmospheres.

From now on, you can book a vegetarian foodtruck for brunch, lunch or a snack with Sophie and her foodtruck Mlle Pipelette.

on the 1st floor of the castle, the ""Photography"" room is installed. It is a beautiful room of 17 m2 and a mezzanine. With 3 single beds, it adapts to your needs: 3 teenagers, 3 friends, a couple (the 2 single beds can be put together) with a child.

We now offer 8 rooms which are based on artistic themes:

on the 1st floor
- the Cinema room with 1 king size double bed and a cot
- the Cirque bedroom with 1 king size double bed and a shower room-wc
- the Literature bedroom with 1 king size double bed and a shower room-wc
- the theater with 3 single beds including 1 in the alcove, with a bathroom and a toilet
- the Photography room with 3 single beds

on the 2nd floor:
